There is a lot of misunderstanding by the general public about
what is the militia. Some of this is due to misinformation provided by main
stream media outlets, but mostly it is due to our lack of communication about
who we are.
First, we are not anti-government; we are pro-community. We believe in life, liberty, the protection of property, and the pursuit of happiness. We are your neighbor, your doctor, your waitress, your police officer, and your child's teacher. We are just like you, and we want to make sure that all of the citizens of Georgia are safe and free to live their lives. We share our skills and experiences with each other so that we are able to protect and provide for our own families, and help each other in times of flood or famine.
The 2nd Amendment begins with "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State . . . " During the founding of our country, the population was largely agrarian and self sufficient; so it was the men of the community, the militia, who defended the population from outside threats and provided social order. Today's militia continues in this mandate and well as takes on an additional purpose.
It was understood by our founding fathers that it was the citizens of each community who knew what was best for them and their children. As the power center of government moves farther away from the very people who it is supposed to represent, that government becomes less responsive to the will and needs of the people. It is easy to go to you county government meeting and make your voice heard. It is easy to make your voice heard by your neighbors. But when you voice needs to be heard hundreds of miles away it looses its power and money often speaks louder than words. As it has been said, "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely." So it is the implied threat of an armed population that keeps worst of the human condition at bay. This is the intent of our 2nd amendment.
An added purpose of the militia is the result of the industrial age; most people are not self sufficient. We do not grow our own food, nor repair our own machines, nor make our own clothes. There have been numerous instances here in the US where the basic social order was disrupted to the point that each citizen was on his or her own. Whether it is a flood, hurricane, snow, ice storm, or even riot the chance is real that each of us may be without power, police protection, or access to commercial stores at some point in our lives. So the members of the Georgia Militia share their individual expertise with each other, practice emergency preparedness, and advocate individual self sufficiency.
Finally, and most importantly, if you have any questions please feel free to ask. We are not some secret organization, we do not engage in, tolerate, nor advocate any illegal activity. We have nothing to hide and if you are a citizen of Georgia, we need your help.
